Lumenisity Releases Next-Generation Hollow-Core Fiber DNANF

Lumenisity Limited, a spin-off from the University of Southampton, has released DNANF®, a new generation of hollow core fibres. The company says the technology has the lowest attenuation of any hollow-core fiber reported to date, and exceeds traditional germanium-doped single-mode fiber (SMF) at O-band and C-band.

DNANF is the latest achievement of the Nested Anti-Resonance Nodeless Fiber (NANF®) hollow core technology jointly developed by Lumenisity and the University of Southampton, UK.


With attenuations of <0.22 dB/km and <0.18 dB/km at 1310nm and 1550nm, respectively, this new fiber technology achieves the lowest loss record of any fiber in the O-band and is comparable to traditional single-mode fibers in the C-band or better. The result is considered the first of its kind in a report.

NANF provides ultra-low latency, low dispersion, low nonlinearity and higher power handling. Due to the lower optical loss of DNANF, the technology provides greater optical transmission capacity, longer coverage, and wider spectral bandwidth. It unlocks the potential of ultra-low latency cables for long-haul transportation and future submarine network applications.
