EPON
What Is EPON?
EPON (Ethernet Passive Optical Network) is a type of Passive Optical Network (PON) technology based on Ethernet. It combines the advantages of PON technology and Ethernet technology, such as low cost, high bandwidth, strong scalability, compatibility with existing Ethernet, and ease of management.
EPON is used to provide access to Internet, voice, and video services. It uses Ethernet packets instead of Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) cells.
EPON is deployed as point-to-multipoint in fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) or fiber-to-the-premise (FTTP) networks. It delivers data rates of 1 Gbps upstream and downstream.
EPON uses a single optical fiber to serve multiple premises or users. It provides access to data like Internet, voice, and video service.

Hangzhou Softel Optic Co., Ltd. (Brand: SOFTEL) was established in 2006, which Located in the HangZhou Hi-Tech Development Zone. Taking advantage of the modern broadcast and optic fiber communication technology, we are specializing in R&D of CATV system equipment, and leading manufacturer of HFC broadband Optic Transmission equipment with strong R&D capability in this field.

IPTV
Internet Protocol television (IPTV) is the delivery of television content over Internet Protocol (IP) networks. This is in contrast to delivery through traditional terrestrial, satellite, and cable television formats. Unlike downloaded media, IPTV offers the ability to stream the source media continuously. As a result, a client media player can begin playing the content (such as a TV channel) almost immediately. This is known as streaming media.

Our Certificate

What are the main types of EPON?
The main types of services that EPON systems can provide include voice, data, and video
Optical Line Terminal (OLT)
This is the central device in the EPON system and acts as the interface between the service provider's network and the optical distribution network (ODN). The OLT manages the optical signals and converts them to electrical signals for transmission to the optical network units (ONUs).
Optical Distribution Network (ODN)
This is the passive optical network that connects the OLT to the ONUs. It consists of optical fibers, connectors, splices, and other passive optical components. The ODN distributes the optical signals from the OLT to the ONUs in a point-to-multipoint configuration.
Optical Network Unit (ONU)
This is the device that connects the end user's equipment (e.g., computers, telephones, televisions) to the EPON system. The ONU converts the optical signals received from the ODN back to electrical signals for use by the end user's equipment.
the main areas of application for EPON
Broadband Access
EPON is primarily used for high-speed broadband access for homes and businesses. It provides a cost-effective way to deliver high-bandwidth services such as internet access, IPTV, VoIP, and other data services.
Video Surveillance
EPON can be used in video surveillance systems to enable high-definition video transmission and real-time monitoring. The high bandwidth and low latency of EPON ensure smooth and reliable video transmission.
Enterprise Networks
EPON can be used to build large enterprise networks, providing high-speed data transmission and stable network connections. It supports file sharing, web browsing, video streaming, and other business-critical applications.
Home Networks
In addition to broadband access, EPON can also be used for home networking. It allows family members to share files, browse the web, watch videos, and perform other tasks on their home network.
Smart Buildings
EPON has applications in smart buildings, including network access, security monitoring, and smart home systems. It can connect smart home devices to the network, enabling remote control and management of home equipment such as lights, air conditioning, and curtains.
FTTH (Fiber to the Home)
As a mainstream broadband access technology, EPON is often used in FTTH solutions to provide high-speed internet access directly to homes.
Video Conferencing and Telepresence
EPON's high bandwidth and low latency make it suitable for applications that require real-time video and audio transmission, such as video conferencing and telepresence systems.
