World Telecommunication and Information Society Day is celebrated around the world every year on 17 May to commemorate the founding of the International Telecommunication Union in 1865. The celebration aims to raise awareness of the important role that telecommunications and information technologies play in fostering social development and the digital transformation of societies around the world.
World Telecommunication and Information Society Day 2023 will focus on "Connecting the world to meet global challenges". The theme highlights the critical role information and communication technologies (ICTs) play in addressing some of the world's most pressing issues, such as economic inequality, climate change, and the COVID-19 pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated the urgent need to accelerate society's digital transformation to ensure no one is left behind. The theme recognizes that creating a just and sustainable world requires global efforts to build resilient digital infrastructure, develop digital skills, and make ICTs affordable and accessible to all.
On World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, governments, organizations, and individuals from around the world come together to raise awareness of the importance of ICTs and the digital transformation of society. World Telecommunication and Information Society Day 2023 provides an opportunity to reflect on the progress made so far and to develop strategies for a more sustainable and interconnected future.
Sponsored by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the People's Government of Anhui Province, the China Institute of Communications undertook the "2023 World Telecommunication and Information Society Day Conference and Series Activities", and many other units in China assisted the Industry and Information Technology Publishing and Media Group, the Anhui Provincial Department of Communications, Department of Economy and Information Technology of Anhui Province, Beijing Anhui Telecom Information and Communication Media Co., Ltd. The three-day event will be held on May 1 in Hefei, Anhui province. From the 16th to the 18th, enjoy the support of China Telecom, China Mobile, China Unicom, China Radio and Television, and China Telecom.
