What is catv tap & splitter?
A catv tap/splitter is a passive device that distributes the power of a high-frequency broadband signal. Its bandwidth has reached 5-1000MHz, its structure is simple, the price is low, the work does not require power supply, and is widely used in the field of HFC cable TV. The device is divided into two configurations: indoor type and outdoor type to meet the needs of different environments. In addition to being waterproof, outdoor-type devices typically have an overcurrent capability to accommodate networks that need to be powered by cables.
The tap is a power level distribution device that takes out a small part of the signal from the main road and sends it to the branch port. The output/input ports of the main circuit are represented by OUT and IN respectively, and the branch ports of the branch circuit are represented by BR.
The splitter is a power level distribution device that divides the input signal into the output port. The output/input ports are indicated by OUT and IN respectively.
What is function of tap & splitter?
The tap/splitter not only has the function of distributing the power signal, but more importantly, it plays the role of impedance matching of the port equipment while distributing the signal. This is very important in high-frequency broadband circuits.
What is port identity of tap & splitter?
The signal output of the splitter is the same, for example, the 204 splitter means that there is 1 inlet (IN) and 3 outlets (OUT), and the number of DBs attenuated by each outlet is 4db.
Taps can be cascaded, while splitter cannot be cascaded because of the high attenuation of the splitter cascade. It stands to reason that after the amplifier, you need to connect a splitter to the TV, and if there are more than two splitter to the TV, you need to use a tap in the middle.
What is difference of CATV tap & splitter?
The biggest difference between the tap & splitter is that the output port to the TV is different, the tap output to the TV is the BR port, and the splitter is the OUT port.
The splitter distributes the signal equally and is often used in cable television, usually 2 3 4 6 8 splitter or larger.
The tap is different, for example, the 410 tap is 1 inlet (IN) 5 outlets, of which there is only 1 (OUT) port, and the remaining 4 are BR ports, the BR port attenuation is 10DB, and the OUT port attenuation is 2DB, which is what we often call insertion loss. During installation, each output port of the tap must not be unloaded, otherwise it will cause ghosting due to impedance mismatch, and an impedance matcher is generally required.
The levels of the output and input of the tap are not equal, and the levels of the output and input of the splitter are exactly equal.
The OUT output port of the tap needs to be connected to the tap/splitter, because the attenuation of the OUT output port of the tap is very small, so as the branch equipment of the trunk line, the TV signal attenuation in the next series line is reduced, and the signal in the whole line is balanced with the use of trunk amplifier.
Tap is in the case of a main output signal smoothly passed, can separate a part of the electronic circuit below the main output signal level of one or several equal signals, it also has a good isolation, as long as the main output port is connected with a standard impedance of the coaxial cable or terminal matching resistor, the tap port open circuit or short circuit has little impact on the input port network, cable TV network uses this feature to connect the main input port of the user terminal.
